Aldo Abreu's Newest CD Release Concert

Distinguished Venezuelan recorder player Aldo Abreu's  new CD, Telemann: Twelve Fantasias & Other Works is being released on Monday, December 7th. This recording features Friedrich Von Huene's collection of original, 300 year old recorders by some of the finest makers of the 18th century, including Bressan, Stanesby Junior, Scherer, Denner, and Boekhout. For those of you who are not familiar with these famous names, they are to the recorder what Stradivarius, Amati and Guarnerius are to string instruments.

During this CD Release concert event, Friedrich Von Huene will talk about his collection, and Aldo Abreu will perform some selections on the original instruments.

The program includes selections from the Telemann Fantasies and from the Concerto in E Minor for Recorder, Flute and Strings in collaboration with Suzanne Stumpf, Dan Ryan and Musicians of the Old Post Road. This concerto was performed on the CD with a recorder and flute matched pair made of ivory by the maker Johan Scherer.

¡Y Que Viva Venezuela!

Smithsonian Folkways Recordings in Washington D.C. just released an album titled ¡Y Que Viva Venezuela! by the group Maestros del Joropo Oriental.

Maestros del Joropo Oriental presents a distinct regional variant of the joropo music anchored in the region around the eastern city of Cumaná on Venezuela’s Caribbean coast and nearby Margarita Island. Their string-driven, highly improvised, danceable music applies a rainbow of sounds - guitars unique to the region, button accordion, violin, maracas, bass and drums - to celebrate this musical tradition.

Situación de nuestro querido Museo de Bellas Artes

Estimados amigos,

Me permito molestarles con un mensaje por una buena causa.

El Museo de Bellas Artes de Caracas, creado el 24 de Julio de 1918, cumplirá 92 años este viernes. Pocos saben que será su cumpleaños, pero pocos saben además que el MBA, como el resto de nuestros museos, enfrenta hoy una situación lamentable y triste: no tiene autonomía, no puede decidir qué exhibir, no tiene personal y por ello muchas de sus salas permanecen cerradas y sus tradicionales talleres vacacionales no serán dictados este año, su sede (dos edificios diseño de Carlos Raúl Villanueva, 1938 y 1976) está muy deteriorada y al gobierno no le interesa su reparación ni su mantenimiento, hay goteras en sus salas y las obras que se exhiben corren riesgos de daños irreparables, sus depositos no han sido fumigados en más de 4 años y las más de 5000 obras que resguardan sufren mucho.

Sé que Uds. son personas sensibles, con la suficiente preparación académica como para comprender la gravedad de la situación ya descrita.

Por ello, como regalo de cumpleaños al mayor de nuestros museos, difundamos esta información por el medio que deseen (FB, Twitter, correos, etc.).

Les doy las gracias en nombre de los trabajadores del MBA, quienes, en silencio, procurar preservar el patrimonio cultural que nos servirá de combustible para recuperar el país.

Classical Guitar Recital with Art Songs for Voice

Venezuelan Classical Guitarist, Hermann Hudde is a performer, teacher, and writer who has studied at the New England Conservatory and was appointed Artist-Teacher for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Hermann will be performing with Jodi Hitzhusen, Soprano and Meena Malik, Soprano in a fund raising recital to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
